Impartiality Policy

Our Commitment to Impartiality

RoyalCert is committed to impartiality in carrying out its certification activities. Impartiality means that decisions are based on objective evidence and are not influenced by other interests or by other parties. Perception of impartiality is equally important.

The top management of RoyalCert understands the importance of impartiality in carrying out its management system certification activities, manages conflicts of interest, and ensures the objectivity of its certification activities.

Impartiality Policy Statement

RoyalCert shall not certify another certification body's management system, and shall not provide management system consultancy. We shall not certify a management system of a body which has received management system consultancy from a related body during the previous two years.

Key Principles

RoyalCert maintains complete independence from organisations it certifies. Our auditors have no financial, ownership or management relationship with client organisations that could compromise the objectivity of their assessments.

All RoyalCert personnel are required to declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest. The organisation has robust procedures to identify, assess and manage such conflicts to protect the integrity of certification decisions.

RoyalCert does not provide management system consultancy services. This ensures a clear separation between advisory activities and certification decisions, maintaining the integrity of our certification process.

An independent Impartiality Committee comprising external stakeholders oversees RoyalCert's commitment to impartiality. This committee reviews policies, identifies threats to impartiality, and provides guidance to management.

All certification personnel — including auditors, technical experts and decision-makers — are required to sign and uphold the RoyalCert Impartiality and Confidentiality Agreement before undertaking any certification activities.

RoyalCert continuously monitors and evaluates threats to impartiality, including those arising from its relationships with personnel, contractors, clients and other stakeholders.

Threats to Impartiality

RoyalCert recognises the following categories of threats to impartiality and has controls in place to address each:

Self-interest

Financial or other interests that might unduly influence judgement

Self-review

Reviewing one's own work or work performed by a related organisation

Familiarity

Being too familiar with a client, resulting in a sympathetic assessment

Intimidation

Actual or perceived pressures from clients or other stakeholders

Commercial

Commercial or financial pressures on certification decisions
