Special Audits
RoyalCert's Special Audit services address specific, targeted audit requirements that fall outside standard certification surveillance cycles. Special audits are triggered by particular circumstances — such as a significant incident, a complaint, a suspected non-compliance, a major organisational change, or the need for an unannounced assessment to verify day-to-day performance.
Types of Special Audit
Short-notice or unannounced audits to verify that management systems are operating as certified on a day-to-day basis, not just during planned assessments.
RoyalCert auditors accompany and observe internal auditors to assess their competence and the quality of the internal audit programme.
Audits to assess whether an existing certification scope can be extended to cover additional sites, processes or standard requirements.
Targeted audits conducted in response to a specific incident, customer complaint, regulatory notification or management concern.
Audits with reduced advance notice, typically 1-2 days, used where a quicker response to a concern or change is required.
Assessment of organisations wishing to transfer their existing certification from another certification body to RoyalCert.
When to Consider a Special Audit
- Following a significant safety incident or environmental release
- Following receipt of a customer complaint about certified activities
- After a major management or organisational change
- When adding a new site, process or service to an existing certification scope
- To verify corrective action effectiveness after a major nonconformance
- To investigate a suspected misuse of a certification mark
- When transferring certification from another certification body
